The Wanderer Program
There have been several occasions where Officers of the Lynn Haven Police Department
have encountered people who are unable to tell us who they are or where they live.
In most cases the person, or wanderer, does not have any identification and we are
unable to assist them in getting home. In these instances, we have to stay with them
until someone realizes that they are missing and calls the police department, or we
find someone who can identify them. This can keep an officer occupied for quite
some time.
The Lynn Haven Police Department has started a 'Wanderer Assist' program. This
program targets anyone who might tend to wander away from their home and family
such as patients with, but not limited to, diabetes, Alzheimer's, senile dementia and mental
deficiencies. The program is restricted to citizens of Lynn Haven with these type of
medical conditions and is NOT intended for lost/runaway children,
nor intended for child ID or other identification purposes.
The Wanderer Assist program consists of an album containing a recent photograph
along with an information sheet with the wanderer's name, address, and telephone number,
primary and secondary care givers contact information, and important medical
history.
Our goal is th ensure the safety and well being of the wanderer, returning him or her
to their family in the least amount of time. Thus reducing the anxiety of both the family and
the wanderer.
