Help Us Stop Unlicensed Contractors

It might be appealing when comparing the estimate of an unlicensed, uninsured and non-bonded contractor to one who has those credentials. However, just think if a contractor doesn’t follow the law in being licensed, insured, or bonded, what else is he or she cutting corners on?

Under Florida Statute 489.127(f) it is unlawful “to engage in business or act in the capacity of a contractor or advertise himself or herself or a business organization as available to engage in the business or act in the capacity of a contractor without being duly registered or certified.” Moreover, Florida Statute 489.13(1) states “any person performing an activity requiring licensure under this part as a construction contractor is guilty of unlicensed contracting if he or she does not hold a valid active certificate or registration authorizing him or her to perform such activity, regardless of whether he or she holds a local construction contractor license or local certificate of competency. Persons working outside the geographical scope of their registration are guilty of unlicensed activity for purposes of this part.”

Our goal is to enforce the Florida Statute on unlicensed contractors and work with the State Attorney’s Office to prosecute those who are unlicensed, uninsured, and non-bonded. As citizens of Lynn Haven, you all can take an active role in helping us prevent unlicensed contractors from working in Lynn Haven by asking for proof of their license and/or insurance.

Please contact the Lynn Haven Police Department at 850-265-4111 to report anyone you suspect of being an unlicensed contractor.
